  • President Donald Trump is the latest world leader to get a call from Queen Elizabeth.
  • The two spoke about  the pandemic, reopening global economies and their "special relationship".
  • The president is proud of his relationship with the queen and has gushed about Her Majesty in the past. "She is so beautiful. When I say beautiful, inside and out," he once told Piers Morgan.

Queen Elizabeth rang Donald Trump up on Tuesday ahead of Independence Day.

Though people won't be able to indulge in their usual 4th of July celebrations in the US, this year marks the first time Prince Harry will experience the day with Meghan and Archie, as the Sussexes are currently staying in Los Angeles.

The call from the queen is the latest in a series she's made to world leaders including President Macron and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern

According to People, Trump wished the queen a happy birthday and the two spoke about the pandemic and "reopening global economies", White House spokesman Judd Deere said.

"The President and the Queen also reaffirmed that the United States and United Kingdom stand together in our special relationship and will emerge from this trying time stronger than ever before," Judd added.

It seems the queen has a good relationship with the US president – or at least Trump thinks so.

He's spoken fondly about the queen, telling Piers Morgan after his first visit to the UK to see her in 2018: "She's an incredible woman.

"She is so sharp. She is so beautiful. When I say beautiful, inside and out."

Royal fans speculate the feeling may not be mutual though, pointing out that Her Majesty may have used her subtle skill of throwing shade to troll the president one too many times.

On one occasion she gifted him a book – even though the world leader said he prefers watching TV to reading – by Winston Churchill, a known anti-fascist. She's also worn very particular accessories upon their meeting such as a Burmese Ruby Tiara – the stones are believed to possess properties that protect the wearer against "illness" and "evil" – and a brooch given to her everyone favourite president, Barack Obama.
