A lot of viewers, around the world, have been missing Saturday Night Live, since the Covid-19 pandemic changed the way we live from leaving the house to TV shows stopping production.

The weekly sketch and variety show, that features a different celebrity host for every episode, is in its forty-fifth season but had to stop filming because of the social distancing procedures needed to prevent the further spread of the virus.

But, in news that brought a smile to millions of peoples faces on Saturday night, the show was able to do a remote broadcast with Tom Hanks as host.

In a little bit of a twist from the usual opening line, the show started with: "Live from Zoom, it's sometime between March and August."

The episode included sketches that were produced by the SNL cast from their homes and included Chris Martin as the musical guest.

Tom Hanks remarked from what appeared to be his kitchen during his monologue: "It's good to be here, but it's also weird to be here hosting Saturday Night Live from home,".

He added: "It is a strange time to try and be funny, but trying to be funny is SNL's whole thing, so what the heck, let's give it a shot."

Tom – who also recently recovered from the virus while in Australia with his wife, Rita Wilson – also said that that this was the first time he had worn anything other than sweatpants in a month.

About being diagnosed with the virus he said: "Ever since being diagnosed I have been more like America's dad than ever before since no one wants to be around me very long and I make people uncomfortable,".
