Cape Town – 2017 has come and is very nearly gone.
From highs to lows to downright confusing moments, there are without a doubt a few international entertainment news headlines we simply won’t be forgetting.
Here are 10 international entertainment news headlines from 2017 that we won’t forget:
1. The year of twins
2017 was definitely the year of twins for celebrities. First to announce that she was pregnant was Beyoncé. The Hold Up hitmaker made the announcement with an Instagram post that become the most like Instagram post for 2017.
Shortly thereafter news broke that Madonna had adopted 4-year-old twin girls from Malawi. While she denied it at first the Living for Love later confirmed she had expanded the family.
And just when we thought that was it, news broke that George and Amal Clooney were expecting twins too! The couple welcomed Alexander and Ella in June.
2. The Manchester concert bombing
An explosion struck an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on Monday, 22 May. It was later confirmed to be an Islamist terror attack. 23 people were confirmed dead, while many other injured.
3. The death of Chester Bennington
Linkin Park frontman, Chester Bennington committed suicide. According to reports the 41-year-old hanged himself at a private residence and was found at 09:00 on Thursday, 20 July.
4. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris
August was the month love died. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced that they were legally separating.
“We tried hard for a long time, and we're really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward,” the former couple wrote in a joint statement.
5. Royal announcements
Two massive announcements put Britain's royal family in the spotlight this years. First came the surprsie announcement of a third royal baby on the way for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge early in September. The announcement came after Catherine was forced to pull out of a public engagement due to severe morning sickness. The bundle of joy is due in April.
Two months later, Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle stole the spotlight when they announced their engagement. The social media announcement was followed by the couple's first official photo-call and TV interview together.
6. Three Kardashian pregnancies
The world was shook when three Kardashian pregnancy rumours spread in September. First up was Kim, who later confirmed she and Kanye are expecting their third child via a surrogate.
Shortly thereafter news broke that Kylie Jenner was expecting her first child with boyfriend Travis Scott. She has not yet confirmed it.
Hot off the news of Kylie’s pregnancy, rumours spread that Khloe is also expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson. She too has not confirmed the news, however people are convinced both pregnancies will be confirmed in their Kardashian Christmas card.
7. Las Vegas mass shooting
October started with a horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas, that left 59 people dead and over 500 people injured. The shooting took place from a window of the Mandalay Bay hotel and was targeted at a crowed of concert goers. Country music star Jason Aldean was on stage at the time of the shooting.
8. Sexual harassment in Hollywood
Since The New York Times published allegations of sexual harassment and assault against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein in October, multiple men in entertainment, media and politics in the U.S. and beyond faced allegations ranging from inappropriate behaviour to forced sexual misconduct to rape.
9. Kevin Spacey comes out as gay after sexual allegations
Following allegations that he made sexual advances on Anthony Rapp decades ago, Kevin Spacey spoke about his sexual orientation revealing that he has chosen to “live as a gay man.”
10. Blake Shelton as People’s Sexiest Man Alive
The world was left shook when People Magazine announced Country singer Blake Shelton as their Sexist Man Alive for 2017. With people like Charlie Hunnam, Trevante Rhodes, Manish Dayal, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and so many more eligible hunks, the decision had people flocking to social media asking why?
