James and Anne's Oscar plan

When it was announced late last year that previous Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway and James Franco were to host the 2011 Oscars together, many Oscar watches reacted sneerily that this was an obvious ploy by the Academy to attract younger viewers. "Well, duh!" was how James Franco reacted to the reaction. "How can that even be a criticism?" he asked the press at the recent Oscar nominees luncheon held in Hollywood.

Yes, this time around the Oscars are doing things a little differently. This time they're actually being so bold as to suggest that this year's climax of the awards season will actually be fun, and something that will be remembered for more than who won what, or who wore what. Amazingly, it's all going to be about the audience - and not the A-list celebrities in the room, hence this year's tagline, "You're invited!"

In James and Anne, who are also the cover stars of Vanity Fair's Hollywood edition this year, we have two proper movie stars, following in the footsteps of last year's MC Hugh Jackman. And while it's safe to say that neither are going to do a Ricky Gervais (the Golden Globes have dibs on that) Anne and James (a nominee himself this year for his stellar performance in the gruelling real-life drama 127 Hours) want you to know that they are prepared - or at least trying to get their act together.

To get everyone properly amped for Hollywood's biggest night on February 27, they've put a few cute, hilarious little promos together that just screams ONSCREEN CHEMISTRY! But will it translate to the live Oscar stage?
