Cape Town – Christina Storm is set to give fans of The Twilight Saga and True Blood a treat, with the release of home-grown vampire love story, Eternity – due for release in cinemas in December.
Set in the inner-city of Johannesburg, the film tells the story of Billy, played by Andre Frauenstein, a young vampire who falls in love with a human girl Jenny (Rikki Brest). Billy’s ex-girlfriend Lisa (Christian Storm) tries to stop their budding relationship, but without success.
In addition to the love triangle the movie also features a clash between the traditional vampires and humans.
Director, Christopher-Lee dos Santos says the experience of directing a vampire film was unique. "It’s never been done before in South Africa. Making a vampire film allowed us to enter a stylistic world with a certain set of visual rules that I’ve always wanted to play with. It was also amazing to work with the cast and the parkour vampires, whose physical feats are astounding. It’s fast, it’s gritty, and it’s exciting," dos Santos said.
The budget didn’t leave much room for visual effects, but dos Santos believes that the audience will be able to imagine the vampire world.
"Our industry is evolving, and we can now tackle any story. I still made
Johannesburg look like Johannesburg, but I wanted to show her cold
unpleasant holes," he said.
The film is produced by independent South African producer Anton Ernst Ventures whose body of work over the past 10 years includes the highly successful Afrikaans movie Jakhalsdans, which was released in April.
Eternity is set for release on 17 December.
