11 big gigs you can’t miss in December


Cape Town – It’s officially December, which means it’s officially the month of Christmas and summer, which means it’s time for that summer holiday we've all been waiting for...

Yes! But before we get ahead of ourselves, we decided to let you know about all the cool music events that is still set to happen this year.

And to make it even easier, we bring you all the big gigs for the month of December in one convenient piece.

So here it goes:

1. Texas
Scottish pop rockers Texas are heading to South Africa for their first full tour. Known for their hits such as Summer Son, I Don’t Want a Lover, Say What You Want, Halo, Everyday Now and Tell Me Why, their tour to SA comes hot on the heels of the release of their latest album, Jump On Board. Catch them live in Cape Town on Friday 8 December at Kirstenbosch and on Sunday 10 December in Johannesburg at Emmarentia Dam. Click here for more info. 2. Maribou State
UK duo Maribou State is coming to South Africa for the very first time this month. Their sound is eclectic, down-tempo and steeped in classic hip-hop and their new album, Portraits is basically updated trip-hop. They’ll be performing in Cape Town on Friday 8 December at Mercury Live and in Johannesburg on Saturday 9 December at The Good Luck Bar. Click here for more info and to read our chat with the duo.

3. Legends of R&B
The Legends of R&B is returning to SA featuring Brian McKnight and Brandy. The tour will be stopping in Pretoria at the new Sun Arena on Saturday 9 December, at the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg on Sunday 10 December, at the Grand Arena in Cape Town on Tuesday 12 December and in Durban at the ICC on Thursday 14 December. 4. Bryan Adams
Bryan Adams is once again returning to South Africa performing in four cities as part of his Get Up World Tour. Don’t miss the chance to see Bryan Adams performing all his hits live starting in Johannesburg on 9 December at the Ticketpro Dome, 10 December at the Sun Arena, Time Square, Pretoria, 12 December at the Durban ICC and 14 December at the Grand Arena, GrandWest, Cape Town (sold out). 5. Black Coffee
After his mind-blowingly successful residency at Hï Ibiza, multi-award-winning DJ and producer, Black Coffee, returns to Shimmy Beach Club this December for a second season, with 5 exclusive Friday night shows. Black Coffee’s residency will form part of Shimmy Beach Club’s annual Summer Calling campaign. This year Black Coffee will be joined by a fresh line-up of local DJs on the decks, including Da Capo and Enoo Napo, contributing to what promises to be a big night out. 6. Afrikaans Rock VOL 3 at Shimmy Beach Club
Afrikaans Rock is back this December with an all-star South African line-up of rock legends that will take to the iconic Shimmy stage, once again, to bring you an exhilarating performance of homegrown talent. Catch Fokofpolisiekar, Jack Parow, Karen Zoid, Francois van Coke, Arno Carstens and Early B Music live on Saturday 9 December at Shimmy Beach Club in Cape Town. 7. Matthew Mole & Majozi
Everyone loves the outdoor vibe at the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts. And on Sunday 10 December you can catch Matthew Mole, who recently released his second album, and indie-folk artist Majozi live in concert. Gates open at 16:00. Tickets cost between R135-R180. 8. Prime Circle
South African rock giants Prime Circle will be performing at Rumours Rock City for the very first time on Friday 8 December 2017. The band recently released their new album ‘If You Don’t You Never Will’ and will be showcasing new tracks along with their hits. It’s been a long time since Prime Circle have played a club show in South Africa, and with support from whiskey-infused Jasper Dan, dirty rock ‘n rollers Dirty Moonshine and alternative rock act  South Of Nine, this is set to be an evening of electrifying live music. 9. Afropunk
The first Afropunk in Africa takes place at Johannesburg’s Constitution Hill on the Saturday, 30 and Sunday, 31 December 2017. The highly anticipated festival features Solange, Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals, King Tha Vs Blk Jks, Black Motion, Laura Mvula and many more. The Afropunk Festival is an annual arts festival that celebrates and unifies the cultural cornerstones of AFROPUNK through music, film, skate, and art. The festival originated in the US but has since expanded to other cities such as Paris and London. Click here for more info and to get your ticket.

10. Anderson .Paak
Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals will perform on Friday, 29 December at Grand West Arena, Cape Town, a day before his performance at Afropunk Joburg. Anderson .Paak is one of the world’s most in-demand artists and has spent 2017 headlining festivals across the United States and Europe. Click here for more info and to book your spot.

11. Youngsta turns 26
Join Cape Town rapper Youngsta at his annual birthday bash. This year for the 6th annual they decided to take it to an open air warehouse located just off the M5 - Canvas Event Space (Unit 17 Transvaal Street, PaardenEiland). There will be indoor and outdoor arenas, 2 bar areas, bottle service, Mobile Cutz Activation, Y?GEN Apparel Pop Up, Food done by House Of H (Halaal), Hookah Lounge.
