Johannesburg - It’s only been a week since its release, but the collaboration song Girls Cardi B did with Rita Ora, Charli XCX and Bebe Rexha has caused a lot of controversy on Twitter – but Cardi has since apologised.
Artists such as Kehlani and Hayley Kiyoko, who is openly gay, called the song “harmful and dangerous” because of the lyrics that support fetishization of queer bodies.
The chorus of the song is a repeated mantra of the words, “Sometimes, I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls, red wine, I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls.”

According to E! News, the pregnant Bodak Yellow rapper took to Twitter apologise for the offensive terminology used in the lyrics of the song:
"I know I have use words before that I wasn’t aware that they are offensive to the LGBT community. I apologize for that. Not everybody knows the correct 'terms' to use. I learned and I stopped using it [sic]."
Cardi’s apology came after Rita wrote on Twitter:
"Girls was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life. I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey. I am sorry how I expressed myself in my song has hurt anyone [sic]."
