Cape Town - As the spotlight falls on gender-based violence in our country and the senseless death of young women, musician Lady Zamar has some pointers about how to spot if you’re in a toxic relationship.

In a series of tweets, the muso highlighted the struggles women in such situations must overcome, such as convincing people you’ve been violated. The Collide hitmaker says she is speaking from personal experience.

She says if your partner keeps you a secret, then you better run away from that relationship.

The duo never revealed the details of their breakup. However, recently Lady Zamar has been speaking out about relationships.

"When you have a cheating partner chances are they’ll tell you some crap about being private and your relationship being yours and not the worlds.. blah blah blah. Secret relationship or private relationship? If they say don’t tell anyone, my advice? RUN. [sic]"

"Abused people are closer than you think.. Abusers are usually those you’d never suspect do it.. the ones with 'Good' social standing.. People of influence get away with it easier, but abuse is everywhere. I speak directly from experience.. About 95% of the time I speak from it. [sic]"
